2009 Musikforum Viktring-Klagenfurt Electronics Prize together with Josef Klammer, the prize is awarded jointly in the Institute for Composition and Electroacoustics of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

studied medicine, psychology and philosophy at Karl Franzens Universität Graz and got his PhD (Medicine) in 1988.

He has been working in the field of new media since 1982. He composed music for computer games, theatre, film, museums, media and sound installations. He presented his work at Ars Electronica, Wiener Festwochen, Steirischer Herbst, the Knitting Factory New York, Sonambiente Berlin, Transmediale Berlin, City of Women Festival Ljubljana, Fine senca fine – Venice, Trentino, Budapest, Graz, etc.

First contact with computer technologies was in the late 70th, when having his internship in the psychatric departement in Brno(Czechoslovakia), later programming in FORTRAN75 and Clipper for different companies.

starting to programming databases for medical applications in the 80th, later on also in the context of media and art for different clients. Then working as a sounddesigner for computergames and doing concerts, soundtracks and theater scores, with a bias in computermusic, electronic an improvised music. He joined the research staff of the Institut for Elektronic Music und Acoustic at the University for Music and Dramatic Arts Graz in 1992 which he left for the FH JOANNEUM 2005.

Besides he was scientific and artistic consultant for the Austrian Kultural Service, especially for new media and networks and was a lecturer at universities in Olomoutz, Ostrawa, Bianka Bistrica, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Kharkiv etc. (music, new media, computermusic).

Got the title Visiting Professor for sounddesign at Danube University Krems in 1999.

Since 2005 professor for sound interaction and interface design at University for Applied Science FH-JOANNEUM.

He became head of master degree program communication, media and interaction design in 2007 (till 2017) where he established the master study program sound design in cooperation with the IEM at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz.

Currently teaching sound and interaction design and psychology of perception at the Institute of Design and Communication.

He is the creator of various CDs. His current live acts include the Klammer&Gruendler Duo, Singing-Adorno with Robert Lepenik, solo concerts, and „the nomadic producers“ with Rupert Lehofer.
