They are tall capsules, seemingly scattered at random across Graz’s Freedom Square. What could their purpose be? A closer look reveals: they are intertwined lines of light forming a shell. And there’s more: these “Lotus Pods” by artist David Ram are by no means static. Rather, they begin to rotate through touch, through the interaction between viewer and sculpture. The faster the rotation, the brighter the light. The result is a visual force that playfully captivates – drawing the viewer out of the world and into this intense moment. When the capsule loses its momentum, darkness fills the void left by the light. However, it is only a brief silence and a fleeting stillness before the cycle begins anew.
