Cajlan and Wissel have been working together as a duo since 2014, focusing on contemporary free improvisation. The duo’s music is characterized by playful lightness paired with depth in sound perception and a willingness to take risks. They are currently working on developing a kind of “elementary particle”-based playing style. This evening, they will perform both as a duo, in the STIO, and as orchestra conductors.
Clementine Fuchs studied conducting at the KUG, as well as in Canford, UK, and Paris.
Studied “Early Music and Historical Instrumental & Vocal Practice” at the J. J. Fux Conservatory in Graz.
Performances of her own children’s operas: “Marie Brande” (2011), “Der Drachenbogen” (The Dragon’s Bow) (2014), “SüdSüdWest” (South-South West) (2017), and “Die Bremen Stadtmusikanten” (The Bremen Town Musicians) (2020).
Violinist in the trio “Boalous.”
CD: “September Regen” (2014), “Türkis” (Turquoise) (2019).
Teaching activities at various music schools and the Free Waldorf School in Graz.
Intercultural music projects with refugees. Music education projects at many schools (“Klangnetze,” “Konfrontationen,” and her own projects).
STIO was founded by V:NM Graz in April 2012 and consists of musicians from the Austrian Improvised music scene. It also has a certain amount of fluctuating musicians, guest artists, and conductors who are familiar with the language of improvised music.
There are roughly between 15-35 musicians depending on the theme of the concert. The instrumentation can vary drastically, but can include horns, reeds, strings, keyboards, percussion, voice, electronic and computerized instruments, ’ethno’ instruments, or even prepared and self-made instruments.
